Longrifles of the San Joaquin – January 2019

Dear Long Rifles,

We had a fairly successful rendezvous considering the negative weather reports during most of last week, the wind on Friday, and fog on Sunday.  We had about 60 shooters in all.  As stated in my last post, we converted the rifle and pistol trail scores to 200 and 50 point scales, respectively, for those who paid the extra $5 to have this count as an aggregate shoot.  There were 38 points possible on the rifle trail, including the two for period dress, which means each successful shot  counted for 5.26 points on the 200 point scale.  The successful pistol shots counted 1.92 each (26 possible).  Raw scores were rounded to the nearest whole number to get the aggregate scores.  The results, with the raw scores in parentheses:

Shooter Rifle Pistol Total YTD
Tony Abbott 168 (32) 12 (6) 108 108
Bob Barker 132 (25) 6 (3) 138 138
Mark Barley 137 (26)  0 (0) 137 137
Fred Jones 147 (28) 0 (0) 147 147
Jerry Smith 105 (20) 0 (0) 105 105

Our next shoot will be Saturday, February 9, commencing at 10:00 a.m.

2nd NRA Range Safety Officer Class Scheduled

Our sport, the shooting sport, is one of the safest hobbies because of basic common sense rules supervised by Range Safety Officers. To help more of our members join that elite group Manteca Sportsmen Inc. is sponsoring another official NRA RSO certification class.

NRA Instructor, Club member and Chief Range Safety Officer Richard “Dick” Reizner will lead the class sharing his 60 plus years of shooting experience. Dick said, “While the information the class provides is important, the RSO’s attitude in passing it on is what really makes the range safe for shooters.”

The two sessions will be held at the Manteca Sportsmen Inc. range, 30261 Airport Way Manteca on March 10 and 17 from noon to 5:00 PM (must attend both sessions to complete the course).

The cost for club members is $35, for non-members it is $150. The class is normally priced at about $180.

Registration forms and further information are available at the range desk or by contacting Dick at (209) 665-7166or Dick@Reizner.com
